We have recently returned from a blissful week at Casa Calida. It was our family’s (husband, wife, twin daughters age 8) first trip to Southern Spain. What a beautiful area it is, how have we not been there before? There is so much to see and do!
Casa Calida is a charming, spacious, stylish, characterful and clearly loved ‘home from home’ full of Arty eccentricities which were fun to spot as we got to know the property.
It had everything we could have wished for including mosquito net blinds, air con, well equipped kitchen, an additional out door kitchen, bbq, laundry room, lovely swimming pool where swallows swoop to drink and a fabulous daybed beck to shade you from the HOT Spanish sun. The garden is mature and well planted, the grasses and trees sway in the golden evening breeze, they are a pleasure to meander through, sit amongst, paint or play hide & seek in!
Our exploratory highlights of the area included a successful wale watching trip with ‘Frimm’, a splendid lunch in Vergere at Corredera 55 and lots of beach fun at El Palmer. Further afield Ronda & Zahara was a stunning place to visit.
Elena (our local contact) was very kind and informative, her communication was excellent, always prompt whenever we needed her advice.
Finally a huge thank you to Barbara & Hendrik for allowing us to stay in your very special Spanish home. It is a joyous place with a lovely arty atmosphere. Thank You So Very Much.
I hope we might return one day.....
This is an extremely comfortable, well equipped, stylish and charming place to spend a week or so with a wonderful welcome. The pool was impeccably clean as was the villa, the terraces and the beautifully mature, peaceful and colourful garden area. There is a lot to do in the area although we didn't explore much as we just needed a relax, swim and recover type of holiday for one week. We would love to return to Casa Calida. Many thanks for everything.
Fantastic Villa in rural location
We've just returned from a wonderfully relaxing week in Najara. The only sound you will hear when by the pool are the occasional cockerel or a donkey braying in a nearby field . Yet despite the rural location you are only 20 minutes from the beach and supermarkets.
We cooked half of our time (outside kitchen is great for cooking steaks/burgers etc) and in local restaurants the other half (local being a car drive away).
The villa is really well equipped and Elena is great at explaining everything when she welcomes you on arrival. As the instruction specify dont rely on satnav once you get within 5 kms - it will try and take you down any dirt road it can. We found though that the road at 5.5 km on the A2228 is a much easier (and safer) way into Najara than the first turning- much fewer bends and good visibility.
Unless you are looking for bars and nightlife within walking distance would definitely recommend this villa.
I do not know why one star has dropped from Nicolas' rating for communication talents. Should have been a full house !
Beautiful villa in the countryside
Wow!! Photos do not do this villa justice it's more colourful and gorgeous in person...from the moment we got there we felt relaxed and could feel all the tension and tiredness drain away...Elena was there to show us around and helped us with questions we had....when I had a problem with the safe she came straight out to help which was great as I'd locked everything in there!! The garden is beautiful you can tell much love and work has gone into it..Henrik and Barbara have thought of everything for the villa...we loved using the outdoor kitchen and cooked 3 nights while we stayed there....I loved all the artwork and ornaments throughout the villa it shows their extensive travel experiences...we hope to come back in the near future...thank you Henrik & Barbara
Rural, relaxing, spacious, brilliantly equipped
We loved the vibe of Casa Calida, spacious, homely & stylish (Mediterranean meets Scandi and not a hint of 'fussy') and lots of wonderful spaces for the whole family to chill out. The photos on the website don't do justice to the villa, especially now the gardens are more mature.
The open plan living / eating / kitchen worked really well - open and spacious but arranged into several distinct areas giving space and privacy when you want it. We loved having a kitchen equipped with pretty much everything you could want to cook 'properly' (for example scales, blender, even a bread cooker) not to mention three different ways of making coffee (nespresso, cafetiere. stove top percolater)
The bedrooms are spacious and (importantly for the Andalucian summer) air-conditioned. The walk-in (i.e. there is no door) ensuite bathrooms might not be to everyone's liking but again are well fitted out and stylishly finished. Modern windows with integrated fly-screens and shutters throughout make it easy to keep the house a manageable temperature and keep the light out for lazy mornings.
The wide veranda around two sides of the house give more options of places to sit, eat, cook (great touches like an outside fridge and glasses by the pool and BBQ) plus a further terrace and seating area on the third side of the house. The garden is big, beautifully planted and laid out, with yet more quiet corners with tables for an evening drink, chairs for a quiet read etc.
The pool, 10m and about 140cm throughout was lovely with loungers, parasols and a large day bed strewn with cushions under a rush roof alongside, with room for all four of us to curl up together with a book.
Elena is on hand in the village and super friendly and helpful with any questions.
We enjoy the rustic-ness of the region (we have visited previously) and relatively few non-Spanish tourists. The lovely Vejer de la Frontera or Benelap are a short drive away for restaurants, food shopping etc. We enjoyed the long sandy beaches beyond on the coast including surfing, especially at El Palmar although the Levante winds blew hard for a full week (unusually) for our first week rendering the beaches empty due to the sand blasting experience.
Family outings included whale watching from Tarifa and the Algeciras water park which the children loved (and the adults too if they are honest!) but we mostly enjoyed doing very little more than reading, drawing and swimming at the villa.
