Had a 10 day stay from December 14th to 23rd. We loved everything about the condo. The appointments such as the furniture, art and window treatments are high quality, and the kitchen was well equipped and modern. For a 10 days stay, the washer and dryer was very handy and located in the right spot so you can just toss your stuff in there and then turn it on when its full. The rooftop deck was a wonderful place to lounge at night or after a dip in the pool. We even ordered Pizza one night and ate up there.
The beds are nice an comfy and all the rooms are air conditioned. The foyer gives you an open feeling. The pool is unheated, but the water is warm enough that your body gets used to it almost right away. The doors have double locks for security.
The location is perfect - equidistant from El Centro and Avenue Montejo. With Park Santa Lucia just a block and a half away. Teatro Contreras is just a bit further. It is between Calle 60 and 62, with Mercado 60 just around the corner. You can actually listen to the live music and see into Mercado 60 from the roof at night. A quick walk down Calle 62 will get you to all the major night spots like La Negra Cantina, Caranegra, Pipiripau, and the Mayan Pub.
We had one issue with the Toilet, but Jose, the property manager came right away (at night!) to fix it.
Here are the downsides:
1) When I say its at the heart of the entertainment scene in Merida, I mean it! You will continue to hear live music being played until 200AM every night except Sundays. However, if you turn the A/C fan on (at a comfortable temp) it will mute the sound out.
2) Merida has its share of bugs. Keep the shutters closed and don't leave crumbs laying around. It will attract bugs.
3) The second bathroom is a 1/2 bath. So if you are coming as a family, you will have to share a single shower.
4) Merida has an ancient sewer system an everything is built on hard limestone. Each home has a septic tank and those tanks are old. So you can't flush TP down the toilet. This is true EVERYWHERE not just at this particular house. So no matter where you stay you will have to put your TP in the little garbage can next to the toilet.
Highly recommend and enjoy Merida!
