I have over 30 years of experience in global tourism, obtained in Europe, Asia and southern Africa where I was born, in Zimbabwe, to a family of doctors! I am a historian and writer as well as a tourist guide with qualifications from the United Kingdom and South Africa. When working full time as a tourist guide i have hosted groups for clients such as Rovos Rail luxury train excursions; international conference delegates, with a specialty in mining history; and also a number of US based university groups including for Stanford University's annual Bing programme, where I presented a programme focusing on South Africa's extraordinary political history. I am also a serial entrepreneur. For the past 11 years I operated a large guesthouse in a nearby part of Johannesburg, Craighall Park. After selling that business, I have now set up a beautiful new property in trendy Linden, which is a bona fide gourmet destination in my favourite city - Johannesburg! I have lived here since the the early 1990s with the express purpose of contributing to the reconstruction of SA in the aftermath of apartheid. I am also a fundi (our word for expert!) in the history of Johannesburg, both colonial and pre-colonial, but also in particular, struggle related. I am also interested in scientific topics such as human origins and geology. If you stay with me you will get the real inside track of this big, bad, beautiful, dynamic and pumping city, whose story is still being told...I work with a wonderful young man called Westone, who is my deputy manager and who has worked with me for 5 years in our first hospitality venture, and who is partnering with me in our second! In addition to Gauteng, I can help advise on all aspects of planning the perfect holiday to southern Africa - whether it be to SA, to Zim, to Botswana, or further afield to stunning Malawi, or lesser known Zambia.
