The house is a Spanish colonial one story, built in the thirties, in an elegant, well maintained, secure residential compound. It has three double bedrooms, two baths, three living rooms, one outside and one with a fireplace, two dining rooms, kitchen, courtyard/patio with luxuriant planting, and several assorted other spaces. There is a decent size pool in the back, also with wonderful plantings, fit for lap swimming, but tends to be on the cool side temperature wise.
The house is nicely and fully furnished, and includes amenities like good thick towels, fresh flowers, bottled water, etc.
Marta, the housekeeper, is at the house five days a week. She straightens up, will do some laundry and will make meals (reserve in advance, extra cost). She is very cheerful and helpful but speaks no English. There is also a gardener who keeps the outside looking beautiful. A small hotel around the corner will arrange for a driver for excursions.
It is helpful if someone in your party speaks some Spanish. Many taxi drivers, restaurant people, etc. do not.
The owner is American and lives in Virginia. She will help arrange pick-up at the airport and make restaurant suggestions. She is responsive about email messages.
The house is a on the edge of the center of Antigua and it is easy to walk almost anywhere in town. It is not recommended that travelers walk the streets at night. Any restaurant will call a cab.
Antigua is a very picturesque town surrounded by mountains and active volcanoes (it is also very touristy). It is great fun to watch the locals in their bright colors and eat the interesting food. It is, however, noisy and filled with pollution from buses and trucks. What a delight to go back to our house after a day of touring, where is was very quiet and peaceful
