Frio river trip

Got to spend the perfect get-away weekend with my family of 5 and our dog. Got to enjoy the water during the day and made smores at night followed by a family movie. Great spot!!! Lots of exploring to do.

Spring Break 2024 with the Family

Our Family had a fantastic time at the cabin and were thrilled with all the wonderful amenities. Our host John personally called the week before our visit to make sure we had our codes for the house as well as to answer any questions we might've had, that personal touch was only the beginning. The cabin was fully equipped with everything from pots, pans to coffee & soap bar in the shower! As an added touch a bottle of wine, a gift to us from the Moores, was such a special touch that my husband and I appreciated while our kids played a game of Texasopoly. Thank you again for your Frio river hospitality!!

Remote and raw! But also really civilized.

I stayed for two nights with my teenagers and three of their teenage friends. This place is great because it's very remote, quiet, right on the river, and it has all the amenities. We drove out there in two EVs and plugged into an outside 120V outlet right after we arrived. By the time we had to leave, the cars were charged. There is an electric dryer with a three-pronged plug. You could use that to charge your EV in much less time (3h versus 30h) but you'd need an adapter for a four-pronged plug. I really enjoyed sleeping with the blinds open and waking with the sunrise. Then going to the full kitchen, making a pot of coffee, and making pancakes for all the kids. Cell phones do not work out there (there is a landline), but the wireless in the cabin is excellent. The local town in Leakey has a nice grocery store, and some good restaurants. This was a great trip. My kids and their friends had a blast!

North of Leakey

Our stay was most pleasant. Property manager was most friendly and helpful. House was very nice. All the odds and ends needed were available. Very pleased with the welcome dinner supplement. :-))) Pleasant location.

We love to travel, but we always come back to the Texas Hill County which is our favorite place in the world - home. John grew up as a fourth generation Texan in San Antonio and for many years made a living as a sports photographer. We love doing anything outdoors. We have a big family and lots of friends! My wife and I both compete in ultra distance canoe racing, marathons and the occasional triathlon. We love golf, movies, sailing in the Caribbean and spending time at the cabins.

Varför värden valde detta boende

We fell in love with the beauty of the Hill Country, the rugged beauty of the land combined with the crystal clear water of the Frio and the wide open skies at night. When I was young my mom started bringing us out to Leakey for the holidays, we used to come out and spend summer nights dancing in Garner State Park. Eventually mom wanted to get a place of our own out here, but we wanted to get away from the huge summer crowds further down river. Mom is a river guide and Master Naturalist and for years brought her kayaking groups to the Frio for fun paddles here and around this area. Mom found this place up in the canyons near the headwaters and she bought it for the family and friends to enjoy.

The very best thing about our cabins is that they are DIRECTLY on the beautiful Frio River. Sitting on the front porch, you are literally looking down at the River about 20 feet away. At night you can hear the water trickling over the rocks and if you listen closely, .....deer hooves on the river bed as they come out for a drink. Located in a sparsely populated area of Real County, this charming little Frio River Canyon is a perfect Texas Hill Country Getaway for couples and families.

Just far enough from town (10 mins) that you can really enjoy the peaceful sunsets and sunrises and close enough that you are only minutes away if you forgot the bread, or need some fresh veggies for the salad.
