Allmänt om fastigheten
This place is huge. We rented the 2 bedroom with living room, kitchen and 2 bathroom for a very good price as well as having an enclosed area with view of the rest of the villa and outside garden. Very happy to have found this place. Very well kept 18th Century Villa.
We are also so happy that you found us. Sharing what we consider a small piece of historical paradise is rewarding. Hope you can come visit again!
Casa cómoda y bien situada. Los propietarios deberían mejorar la visibilidad desde la carretera y proporcionar indicaciones más precisas para encontrar la casa. No es difícil pero, cuando no se conocen las carretera, recién llegados....
Thank you so much for selecting to stay with us. Your suggestions about location orientation and markings on the road are greatly appreciated. I have already started on information that guests can take with them when they explore the island. I am also researching what we can legally do to make our private entrance more visible at night.
Again, thank you so much. Laura
A Stay with History
The Quinta was a great value and a great place to stay. It is part of a beautiful estate with a courtyard and extensive grounds. The unit itself, o apartmento grande, featured two large bedrooms, two full baths, a full kitchen, dining room, living room, and two fireplaces. The unit was clean (and was cleaned during the week, even though we considered it a rental and not a hotel), very large, and replete with modern conveniences: satellite TV, WIFI, a cell phone for local use, space heaters (useful in January), a washer, and (rare in Europe) a dryer.
We were provided with a variety of groceries (eggs, coffee, dairy) and fresh rolls everyday. Every time we needed something we were attended to immediately. Also, we were allowed an early check-in to accommodate our overnight flight from North America.
I would agree with a previous reviewer that the unit is more quirky than luxurious. The floor plan can be viewed on their website; owing to the apartment's past as a winery, its rooms had to be fashioned to fit the space. There are many architectural details typical of traditional Azorean design (basaltic stonework) and others about which I can only guess, such as the loft structure in the larger bedroom. The non-plumbed rooms have a very antique look and feel. The working fireplaces enhance the atmosphere.
We chose to visit in January knowing that we would not get beach weather. The hydrangeas were mostly shriveled or cut back, but other flowers, like Bird-of-Paradise, were much in evidence. The traveler who is accustomed to climate control should note that this is rare in homes in the Azores, including the Quinta.
We used the space heaters and fireplace and did quite well; we noted fans in the rooms for warmer months (it does not get hot there).
The owners provide many tourist pamphlets and maps. Most of our sightseeing was of the beautiful volcanic landscape. The Quinta is close to three largish towns: Lagoa, Ribeira Grande to the north, and Ponta Delgada, the largest city. Besides restaurants and shopping, there are several hipermercados with an assortment of interesting foods, much of it grown/raised on the island or caught in the local waters. A car is really necessary here (there is plenty of room to park behind an automatic gate), but you need one anyway to really get around the island.
Awesome estate in perfect location
Attention to detail, warm service, and excelent communication add to old world ambiance and comfort
with modern telecom amenities. We will definitely return
and highly recommend to any others who wish to enjoy
Sao Miguel from a location close to the airport and Ponte
Delgada and a century away in peacefull tranquility.
The apartment grande was exactly as shown in the pictures, which was great. They were there to meet us at the airport as they said they would on numerous email conversations, she was very helpful with any and all questions that we had about the house and the island. The house was very clean and the beds very comfortable. They had also stocked the refrigerator with milk, eggs and fresh bread was delivered daily. She had supplied travel books and personal places of interest, with phone numbers and addresses of places we may have been interested in, I feel they went above and beyond my expectations. The location was great, a 10 minute drive to the city.If we ever go back I would return to stay again. thank you for your generosity it was greatly appreciated.
Wonderful Visit to Quinta Santa Rosa 5 Stars!
My husband and I enjoyed the first of which we hope will be many visits to Quinta Santa Rosa earlier this year. From fresh morning coffee to twilight drinks in the courtyard, everything was spectacular! The rooms are well appointed, immaculately clean, and the property is well maintained. From Quinta Santa Rosa, it was easy to go shopping, horseback riding, hiking down to the beaches, and just plain relaxing in a lovely Old World setting with all the modern conveniences. We highly recommend Quinta Santa Rosa!
