Exactly right! Cozy, convenient, cushy.
Exactly as advertised -- centrally located, extremely well outfitted, and Roald who was able to respond quickly and easily to all my questions. I would stay there again and I would recommend it to my friends, too.
Perfect location, fully furnished, great for a couple or family
The house is clean & furnished with everything you need – stocked kitchen (you provide food), table for 6, TV and couch, washer/dryer, & nice bedroom/loft upstairs. Fantastic art and SO MANY wonderful books to look at. Two cute decks through small doors up in the loft & a larger deck behind the house (although we were not able to use that, it was under reconstruction during our stay and not furnished).
The location is great – you are a block from the main shopping street & grocery store (which we used often).
The owner is very responsive & helpful.
I highly recommend this house if you want a prime location in Reykjavik within walking distance to everything, like to have some downtime at home (cooking, watching TV), or if you have kids and just need a little space to spread out.
I don’t recommend this house if you have ANY balance issues because the staircase leading upstairs does not have any handrails - made us nervous.
A side note: I believe there is a tenant in the basement of the house (but a separate entry and no access to the upper levels). We didn’t know that, so I just thought I would pass it along.
In case they might be helpful to you, here are a few random notes from a Minnesotan’s first trip to Iceland:
Parking – you pay for street parking. P1 is the most expensive, P2 is less, and P3 is the least. HOWEVER, if you park outside of a parking zone (no color zone on your iphone map), you can park for free. We parked 2 blocks from the VRBO avoided parking fees for the week (south end of Vitastigur, east side of street).
Food – it’s EXPENSIVE. So is gas. Be prepared. We saved $ by walking the 1 block to Bonus foods & getting eggs, bread, butter, & jam. Eating a big breakfast helped hold us until an early dinner.
Activities we enjoyed-
*The beautiful hike to Reykjadalur Hot Spring River. It took us 75 min. to hike in, then we changed into swimsuits and sat in the beautiful hot river for 1 hr, then hiked out.
*The puffin boat tour was a great way to get out on the water, see the island from a distance, & see the adorable puffins.
*I HIGHLY recommend the snorkel trip w/ DIVE.IS. They walk you through it, are so kind, & the views were amazing. Worth every penny.
*We visited the local outdoor pool (Laugardalslaug) & it was great for a relaxing or if you have kids (big kid pool and smaller hot soaking pools).
If we came back to IS, I think we'd split our time btx Reykjavik & a rental near glaciers. Guess we have to come back! :)
Fantastic spot close to the city centre with everything you could possibly need or want
Ronald our host had been really easy to contact and responded quickly to any queries. It's been a pleasure dealing with him and he checked in every couple of days to make sure we had anything we needed.
Arrival and departure was a breeze as Roald has set up a very effective method for accessing the apartment. Very handy as we left early for our flight..
The apartment is exactly like the photos, traditional style house to the area which was well equipped.. there was nothing missing you could possibly need.. beds were comfy, shower was amazing kitchen was all modern appliances.. we could not of asked for a better location.. main street is close as is a bakery and supermarket.. yet very peaceful when inside...
Can't recommend Roalds apartment highly enough as a base for your stay!!!
Nothing short of Great!!!!
First off, we cannot say enough good things about the owner Roald, and his home. This is truly a jewel in the heart of Reykjavik. Despite being so close to the central shopping and dining core this home, conveniently tucked away from the street, lends itself an air of seclusion and privacy, away from the daily buzz. Whether this is your first visit to Iceland, as it was for us, or you are a returning visitor, do yourself a favour and stay in this home!
As others have mentioned, Roald was always quick to respond to questions and provide recommendations. We did eat in often and took full advantage of the amenities the property had to offer, such as the well-equipped kitchen. Cozy, warm, inviting, relaxing, clean, bright, and calm. I could go on and on about the positive experience for which all future stays will be judged.
We stayed for a week and could have stayed for much longer. In fact, we have already begun planning a return trip and have fingers crossed this property will be available upon our return. Reykjavik, surrounding areas, the people and this home have charmed us in a way few other places have. All around a terrific vacation made possible by terrific accommodations. You cannot go wrong, book now!
Schöne Wohnung mit super Ausstattung. Sehr gute Lage zum Ortszentrum. Nette Betreuung durch Roald.
A great home in the heart of Reykjavik’s hottest neighborhood...
Normally we stay in nice hotels when we travel. We decided to try something different for our first trip to Reykjavík and couldn’t be happier with Roald’s home on Grettisgata. We stayed for a week, and could have stayed for another.
It’s perfectly situated one block from the main shopping/dining/entertainment street, but just far enough off the street that there’s no noise. We easily walked to dinners and bars and shops, as well as the waterfront and museums. Really, we can’t imagine a better location in Reykjavik.
The home is well equipped and perfectly comfortable. Though we didn’t cook any meals at home, we easily could have. The kitchen was set up as though a chef lived there.
The bed and related bedding were comfortable and in great shape, and the bathroom towels were fabulous!
In short, we’d stay here again and would recommend it to any of our friends.
