Hynes Family Cabin är en vacker, renoverad delad timmerstuga med fantastisk utsikt och moderna bekvämligheter. sju sovplatser. Byggt 1925, har denna stuga nya furupanel hela och en nyligen ombyggda kök, vardagsrum och badrum. Badrummen har vintage keramiska belysning. Ett stort sovrum och ett separat sovrum område på veranda, båda med queen sängar. Tre enkelsängar på verandan. Ett badrum med dusch och badkar, en toalett. Vardagsrum har ny skinnsoffa och kärlek sits, plus ursprungliga split logg och furumöbler. Stor Uteplats med spektakulär utsikt över Harney Peak och Mt. Elkhorn. Original boll och klo badkar på verandan är fylld med kuddar för barn att läsa. Cykling och vandringsleder i närheten. Tre miles från Hill City och fem miles från Mt. Rushmore. Gäster och deras barn har full nytta av den närliggande Mt. Rushmore KOA faciliteter, inklusive gratis pool, bubbelpool, vattenrutschbana, minigolf, filmer, lanthandel, restaurang, bar, glass butik, pizza och smörgås butik, lanthandel, presentbutik, och tvättstuga. Cabin Out West

We enjoyed our stay at this cabin! The owner was easy to communicate with. The kitchen had everything we needed and we enjoyed eating dinners on the porch overlooking a beautiful view (the large septic ponds didn’t bother us too much, no smells). The porch area does get a little windy at times and cold at night but our girls loved the electric blankets and said the porch was cozy and fun!

Vintage cabin

The cabin was amazing. We had perfect weather for utilizing the sleeping porch with plenty of blankets available for warmth. We love sleeping in a cold room and this was great. Nice touches of family memorabilia the made you feel at home We would definitely stay again.

A hidden gem!!

We took my elderly in-laws and our kids but scheduled it without realizing in advance it was Sturgis week. I checked in at the KOA office to let them know we were going to be at the cabin, but the desk clerk said we didn’t need to check in with them but we’d have to pay to use the pool or rec areas. The owner sent great instructions on how to access the cabin, but I still had to ask for help before I found the obvious sign out front. Oops! The cabin was huge, spacious, clean, and comfortable. Yes, the KOA retention ponds are in view, but have no odor to the cabin and geese, deer, and horses are all frequent visitors around the ponds. Mountain views are a tip of your head upwards! The attached KOA is busy and can be loud, but we did take advantage of their dining facilities and ice cream shop when we couldn’t get in anywhere else due to bike traffic. The beds were comfortable and the extra blankets came in handy for chillier mornings. The kitchen and coffee pot were a blessing! We used the dvd player to unwind with the kids. The kids loved climbing the large rocks and seeing the chipmunks run up the exterior of the fireplace. The cabin was tucked far enough away from the campground that the only real noise was nature and the horses being rounded up, which we enjoyed seeing. We did take the scenic Palmer Gulch Road out the back of the campground to avoid all the foot traffic, and loved the pretty views and winding road into Hill City. We wish we could have stayed longer!

Arthur Hynes är värd

The Hynes family built this cabin in 1925. It was the first cabin on what we consider the most beautiful valley in the Black Hills. Our grandparents, Mary Louise (whom we called Sister) and Dibrell Hynes were invited by friends to come for a visit to the Black Hills from Evanston, Illinois where they lived. They fell in love with the Hills, and Palmer Gulch in particular, and decided to build a cabin here.

Every summer after that, Sister and her three children, Jim (our father), and his older sisters Aubrey and Susan would make the arduous three-day car trip from Evanston, camping along the way. They’d spend the whole summer here, riding their own horses, roaming freely, fishing, hiking and exploring. Dibrell was a geologist, so he could identify any rock we found. He would come to the cabin for his vacation by train every summer, and the family traveled around the west, visiting America’s other magnificent national parks.

The third generation of the Hynes family, Frances, Carol and Arthur, along with our cousins, spent summers staying at the cabin as children, and the Black Hills entered our blood. Now our children and their children delight in spending time here. Five generations have loved this cabin! We are very happy to share our special place and its history with visitors. Our manager, Kimberly Herman, grew up in the Stillwater, Oklahoma area. She moved to Moorehead, MN and then to Hill City where she lives now. Kimberly is a responsive and efficient manager who makes all our guests feel right at home, and we are very grateful to have her as part of our Hynes Family Cabin team.

There is a sense of majesty and history to the Black Hills, including both Old West and Native American culture, that is unique to the Hills. You will find your senses reawaken to the smell of ponderosa pine and wildflowers. There are wonderful activities for the tourist, for children, the nature lover, the hiker, the fisherman, the hunter, the historian, and the geologist.
