Perfect anniversary trip
Me and my husband visited here for our first wedding anniversary and it was amazing. The cottage is secluded and quiet which is perfect. The views from the house were beautiful and the walking trails were lush. We took my mums dog away with us and he loved it. It unfortunately rained during our stay but there was nothing nicer than sitting with the fire on listening to the rain. The owner was lovely and welcoming. This is the perfect trip away for anyone who wants a quiet and peaceful trip with the most gorgeous views. We definitely recommend staying here and will definitely be back!
A rural retreat.
We had a lovely stay at the cottage. The surroundings are so remote and peaceful, and our children really thrived on the fresh air, abundance of wildlife, family time and insights into the way the countryside is managed by those working in the area. Plenty of walks - including a paddle along the stream at the end of the garden - are on your doorstep. Hawick is a short drive away where there is a lovely park and a very reasonably priced swimming pool as well as supermarkets, shops and a cinema. Loads of castles and country houses/gardens are within driving distance or you can just relax at the house listening to the radio, playing board games, drawing, painting, playing in the garden, wildlife watching... We did a bit of everything and loved every minute. In reality if you are particularly put off by spiders or a bit of dust you may agree with some of the reviews that wanted a more pristine or luxurious cottage - my feeling is this is not a manicured, manufactured country cottage experience but a genuine country home in a location, and of an age, that means I'm not sure you could get a cleaner feel without extensive modernisation, which isn't what we went for. As the owner says in the visitors' book it isn't the Ritz - but it is real and well worth the incredibly good value price charged for a real escape from the more hectic pace of everyday life!
Down by the sheeps - ok for us.
